{Day 60} Who Put That There?

Theme # 360 Who Put That There?
That's what I want to know, who put that there in the creek for water to run over and fish to swim through? Looks like it has been there for a long time. BTW its an old 47 Chevy, what's left of it.

{Day 59} Steeple

Theme #302 Steeple
Don't think I can find a grander steeple around these parts than this one that.

{Day 58} School

Theme #268 School
It is amazing what you can find when you drive slow and keep your eyes open. This is probably going to date me somewhat but I went to a school just like this one. No I don't live in some hick town, we do have indoor plumbing and running water. It just that when I was young and you lived in the country, you just went to the country school instead of going into the new school in town. Bet there's lots of fond memories in those old building.

{Day 57} Places Of Worship

Theme #235 Places Of Worship
This the Idaho Falls LDS Temple that is on the bank of the Snake River here in town. The ice is gone, thank goodness, and I was able to get a semi-good reflection of it in the river. On a really calm day you can get a really good reflection if you are will to wait for a really CALM, WARM day.

{Day 56} Photographer

Theme #233 Photographer
Yup that's me behind the lens. I really hate to have my picture taken, not very photogenic. I would rather be behind the lens than in front anytime. You wont find may pictures of me in any of my photo albums. Wont be anything to pass on to the grandkids other that my camera gear.

{Day 55} Orange

Theme #213 Orange

This is a picture of a old piece of farm equipment, looks like the birds have more use for it now.

{Day 54} New

Theme #198 New
It is calving season here on the ranch and you don't get any newer than this. Less that 1 hour old and all ready up and walking. It still amazes me, even after all the calves that I have seen, that they come into the world knowing right where the breakfast table is and how to get there.

{Day 53} Larger Than Life

Theme #166 Larger Than Life

Just around a bend in the road, on my way to the Teton Valley, I came upon this old barn Larger than life. I love old barn, they have such character. Built during the time when farm work was done by hand and horses. This one look as thou it's had a bit of a face lift. I don't think there would have been sliding glass windows in the door, everything else seems to be original.

{Day 52} Holes

Theme #150 Holes
When is it time to get a new bucket? When it looks as bad as this one.

{Day 51} Grunge

Theme #134 Grunge
I was sorting out the kitchen drawers and ran across my husbands ol Wok Spatula. I don't think it will be used for any more cooking but the photo might be used for some good textures.

{Day 50} Froozen Treats

Theme #113 Frozen Treats
13 degrees F. would make anyone frozen. This is what my Big Mac looks like before it hits your freezer inside.

{Day 49} Doors

Theme #79 Doors
Coming in or Going Out, which is it? A door leading to no where. This is all that is left of an original log cabin that is next door. Shame to see these old building falling to ruin.

{Day 48} Dirt

Theme #76 Dirt
He on the ranch we feed the cattle by very large 1 ton round hay bales. I noticed the impression that they left from sitting on the ground all winter long. Might make an interesting texture file, what do you think?

{Day 47} Curly

Theme #71 Curly
I happened across this old Elk Hide (EEK, UGH, NASTY I know) that my husband had hanging outside over a railing, looked kind or interesting. You would never know that this is what it is by the picture, it really photographs better than it looks. Any how this is CURLY.

March 24, 2009

{Day 46} Canine Companions

Theme #41 Canine Companions
I have always had a dog and think that I always will. There is just something about having one around. Is it security that they offer? Perhaps it's their willing to listen and not talking back. Or maybe it's just their willingness to be my loyal companion. I don't know why exactly I like have a dog, I just do. This is MAX my trusty cow dog that has kept me out of harms way many times.

{Day 45} Building

Theme # 37 Building
When my Grandkid come to visit their favorite thing to do is to get out the large container of Legos and start building. I have had these Legos ever since my children were small and have kept adding to the collection. I probably have over 3000 pieces, enought to keep several grandkids busy for hours industrious building. Come to think of it, maybe this is why my son is the engineer to much Lego time.

{Day 44} Broken

Theme #36 Broken
I bet you can't guess what this is? Well - - - - It is a broken windshield that has been sitting in the sun for many years. I though it would make a good texture piece.

{Day 43} Reflections

Theme # 256 Reflections
Sunset reflecting off Warm River during the winter. No I didn't photoshop this, this is the actual color of the water with the sun setting in front of me. Probably not the best way to have taken the picture but with mounds of snow on both banks, you do what you can.

{Day 42} Adolescence

Theme #8 Adolescence

What I would give to have the vigor, oomph, energy, get-up-and-go, strength of youth. Adolescence, the time in life gets crazy, girls go crazy and mom and dad are crazy. Kam, my number one grandson, age nine going on fifteen. I love it when he brings his dad to visit.

{Day 41} Peak or Valleys

Theme #Peaks or Valleys
I couldn't think for any Grander Peak than my very own Grand Tetons that are right in my backyard, well give or take 50 miles. I have, when I was younger much younger climbed 2/3 of the way up the Grand, around Mt. Owen and all over Table Mountain (which is a favorite hiking spot from the Idaho side). Picture was taken Saturday, March 21st on a trip to Grand Targhee Ski Resort on the Idaho Side. There are more pictures taken of the Grand Tetons from the Idaho side that the Wyoming side due to the fact that the Idaho side is more photogenic.
The scenery is breath taking, numerous waterfalls, wild life galore, granite cliffs and the flora is outstanding.
Here is a little history of my favorite Mountain Range in the whole world -

The Grand Teton is the highest mountain within Grand Teton National Park, and at 13,770 feet (4197 m), the second highest in the U.S. state of Wyoming. The origin of the name is controversial. The most common explanation is that "Grand Teton" means "large teat" in French, named by either French-Canadian or Iroquois members of an expedition led by Donald McKenzie of the North West Company. However, other historians disagree, and claim that the mountain was named after the Teton Sioux tribe of Native Americans.

Link for the Teton Cam is right HERE if you want to see it in real time but bear in mind that the weather is always changing here in Idaho so you could be seeing just snowy, cloudy or stormy weather on the mountain. I LOVE these Peaks Ü

{Day 40} Childhood Favorite

Theme #48 Childhood Favorite

Was there ever a book that you read in grade school that really made a lasting impression on you, one that you can recall every scene, every action or event? The one that comes to my mind is "WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS". Boy what a tear jerker that one is especially if you had a favorite dog that went everywhere with you.

Following is a short summery that sets the stage for story just in case you can't recall or haven't read it yet -

"Billy lives on a farm. He wants two good coonhounds very badly, but his Papa cannot afford any. Billy works hard, selling fruit and bait to fishermen, so eventually he has enough money for the dogs. He gives the money to his grandfather, who orders the dogs for him. Billy sneaks off in the middle of the night to go to town and pick them up. While in town, other children pick on him, but he stands up for himself and is helped by the marshal. On his way home, he and his two pups sleep in a cave. Outside, they hear a mountain lion, and the pups bravely howl back. He decides to name them Old Dan and Little Ann. He can see that Old Dan is very brave, and that Little Ann is very smart."  Where The Red Fern Grows

In memory of this childhood favorite, my town library erected a stature that depicts Bill, Little and and Old Dan. I should probably go get me a new copy and one for my grandchildren as well.

{Day 39} Graffiti or Mural

Theme #126 Graffiti or Mural

I had just exited the local bread shop this weekend and was curious what might be down the ally way behind the build. I would never had expected to find a pair of wings drawn on the side of a building yet here they were. I had seen these wing before as they are a favorite backdrop for many High School Senior pictures. No one really knows who put these wing there or why but I have a good idea. Graffiti or is it a Mural, you choose, will probably be here for some time yet to come and will be seen in many more Senior Pictures.

{Day 38} Kids These Days

Theme #163 Kids These Days

Downtown Idaho Falls, ID there happens to be some very modern seating, well that is if you know how to sit on them.

{Day 37} Windows

Theme #362 Windows

I went for a walk around the Green Belt (a area that is paved that goes around the river) this afternoon. I noticed these windows across the street and the reflection of the trees in them. The windows are all one way mirrors and makes for, I think, a interesting reflection of the surrounding trees.

{Day 36} Turkey or Fowl

Theme #340 Turkey or Fowl

I just love the colors or the roosters I don't think that the hen is too impressed thou. Just another day at the ranch.

{Day 35} Trash or Treasure?

Theme #336 Trash or Treasure

Looks like it is time for a little spring cleaning around here. Why is it that junk always looks worse after the snow leaves? NO WAIT!! Could these really be hidden treasure waiting to be made into workable pieces of art? Probably! You have to see these items the way I do. All the are are just parts of several unfinished art projects.

{Day 34} Follow the Leader

Theme # 105 Follow the Leader

Spring must really be here. Everywhere I look the birds and fowl are strutting about trying to catch the female eye. I was amused how the turkeys just kept following one another, trying do out do, out dress and make themselves look AH so much more manly in a fowl-ly sorta way.

March 16, 2009

{Day 33} Sports

Theme #299 Sports
Bridger has been taught that when a score is made in football, that the arms go up. We will keep him as the official scorekeeper, SCORE!

{Day 32} Bridges or Tunnels

Theme #35 Bridges or Tunnels
Dennis and I stopped in Saturday morning to see how the kids were doing. Bridger, pictured here, has just started walking and by the looks of it wont be long before he is running. It is a shame that we don't get to see the grandchildren as much as we would like, is life is getting in the way? It was still nice to sit and visit even if it was a little early.

March 12, 2009

{Day 31} Food Glorious Food

Theme #106 Food glorious Food!

I have really been trying to make use of the FREE classes that are offered around my community lately. The latest one was one EGG ROLLS.
I have made egg rolls before but I liked the idea of being able to be taught by someone that had actualy lived in an Asian country and knew first hand how they are really supose to made.
The class was great in fact it went over so well that 2 additional classes were held and over 100 egg rolls were made.
I went straightway to the grocers and bought all the necessary ingredients, ground pork, carrots, celery, Chinese cabbage, scallions and a little ground elk for good measure. With the help of my husband frying while I rolled the wraps, we made close to 30 egg rolls ourselves. We have been eating them for the past 3 days.
I love it went the community really has something good on its plate to offer. ENJOY!

{Day 30} Warning

Theme #351 Warning
Use to be that you could see these kind of road signs all over the west due in part to the Stinker Stations. This happens to be the only one left in my area so I thought I had better get a shot at it before it was gone as well. Some of the other sayings that were also put on signs are-

  • (Out in the middle of NOWHERE without a dwelling in sight) "If you lived here you would be home now."
  • Next to a bunch of large rocks painted green, "Petrified watermelons take one home to your mother in law."
  • "Watch out for the cows jumping over the moon, they may land in front of you."
  • "Watch the stripes in the middle of the road but try not to hit the kitty with stripes. That's our mascot."
Following is a little history for posterity stake about the famous Stinker Stations:

Stinker Stations have been around Idaho since the 1930s. It’s a gas station chain started by a man with a keen sense of humor - the skunk used to be the big star. The skunk has taken more of a background role since the chain was sold, and since the chain became affiliated with Sinclair. The chains also used to use Burma Shave-style roadside signs for promotion - with sayings something like “Nudist Camp – keep your eyes on the road,” and there would be cutouts of discarded clothing nearby, and maybe a naked mannequin. A recent bus bench banner for Stinker Stations here in Boise said “If you think no one cares, miss a payment.” Stinker was one of the first stations to offer bio-fuels.

{Day 29} Sandy

Theme #Sandy
My Husband and I had a family friend come and visit this winter. Sandy, that's her name, hasn't been around snow, USA country life or Idaho winter sports before. So DH and I took it upon ourselves to break her in slowly. She enjoyed riding through the elk herds in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, shopping in at all the winter closeout sale and I believe she even enjoyed her go at snowmobiling by herself. She did however manage to run into a few obstacles thou. Rocks, brush and a ditch kind of slowed her up. All and all she will be ready to go at it again when or if she ever returns.

{Day 28} Closely Cropped

Theme #55 Closely Cropped
I thought this picture would look really great if it were closely cropped as I don't have the ability of taking a really good close-up picture.
I remember sitting in 7th grade science class when my teacher asked the question: how can the sun and the moon both be up and shining in the middle of day?
I took me science classes and years later to finally figure that one out. Call me a slow learner. Funny how some teachers can make imprints in those they teach, just wish that he hadn't left me hanging for so many years.

{Day 27} Texture

Theme Texture
It's late and no one is around so I thought I would work a little on PSE7. Scrounged up a old photo of last years sunrise and thought it would look pretty nifty with a grunge look. So here is my first attempt at doing textures. Seem pretty simple really but I know that I am probably doing it the hard way as it took me forever to get it together.

{Day 26} What Am I?

IMG_1509
Theme #356 What Am I?
Have you figured out yet? Well it has been just a bit cold to say the least and while I was outside doing some checking round I came upon this. What you are seeing is a handle of a garden fork covered in frost. I really like how the frost flakes are almost standing in mid air.
I had originally planned on posting some baked good.s I had the photos all sorted and ready and when I went to post them they were GONE, ALL GONE. Gosh I hate it when I clean-up the computer and delete the wrong things.

March 04, 2009

{Day 25} Computer

Theme #62 Computer
I really have been spending way too much time here. By the looks of this place you would think that I live here. Today's plans are: Get some housecleaning done, make some oatmeal cookies for husbands lunch, walk outside and check the cows for any new calves and find something interesting to photograph. That is a hard one, finding something interesting to photograph, because it is wet, muddy and dreary outdoors today.

{Day 23} Abandoned

Theme #5 Abandoned
Remember the old Firestone Bikes? This one happened to belong to by Grandpa who has been gone for sometime now. They were really something in there day, my Grandpa and his bike.
