While riding up in the snow covered high country this weekend I came across a sight that I just couldn't understand. PIPE! VERY LARGE PIPE.
Come to understand that these pipe are what hold the windmills in place.
So why don't we ever see these pipes around windmill? It's because they are sunk in the ground, that must be some massive whole. The are the support base for those tall fixtures. They have to put at least a 1/3 of the height of the windmill in the ground for anchorage so that the windmills don't blow over with the straight of the wind. CRAZY.

They certainly make a fascinating image taken on this angle - love the repetitive patterns in this image - great pick.
I too am fascinate by windspinners. But at 300 feet from the ground I understand their need for support. Lots of support, so hence the pipes! Great image to represent was is needed to support these beasts.
Wow! I don't think I've ever seen pipes so large. I like the patterns of this shot.
That would work for Repeating Patterns or for Three...We've seen many wind farms on our annual camping trips out west, but it was only when we saw huge trucks passing us with the vanes that we realized just how huge they are. We have wondered how they're built and what hold them on their relatively slender poles. Thank you for adding to our understanding of them.
